Trial by Fire

Martyrdom by firer is shown opposite to the martyrdom by water. Priest Joachim Frolov was burned alive in 1921 in the Amur Providence in the Far East. Only his pectoral cross was found among the ashes.

Christian martyrs were undoubtedly among the 1,000 prisoners burned alive in the NKVD prison in Kharkov, and among 180 prisoners burned alive in the village of Valuika near Chuguev, in the fall of 1941, at the retreat of the Red Army.
